Jan. 7 - Christmas Tree Pick-Up

Posted on Sunday, 18 December 2011 in All Sections

Christmas is only a few days away, but we do need to think about those trees after Christmas.

On Saturday, January 7th, we will be holding our Annual Christmas Tree Pickup.

We will be meeting at the New Maryland Centre at 9am. We will be going around the village picking up Christmas Trees, for donations. This is a great fundraiser for our group, and a lot of fun! This is also a community service event, and is our last big fundraiser for the year.

We are in need of another truck or two, and if anyone has access to a trailer you could use for the morning, we would appreciate it! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

All ages are needed, as the bigger kids (and adults if you can help) haul the trees, and the Beaver Scouts go to the door for a donation. We really need a good turn out on events such as this to make it a success, and remember the saying "many hands make light work."

Usually we run this event from 9am-12pm, and then have a lunch afterwards. Details on lunch will be provided as we get closer to the date.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Party - Dec. 19

Posted on Tuesday, 13 December 2011 in All Sections

snoopy christmasOur all section Christmas Party is this coming Monday evening, December 19th. We will be at Faith Baptist (across from the Irving).

Please note there will not be a gift exchange, instead we are asking that the youth bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the food bank. The party for all youth will be at the Beavers and Cubs regular time of 6:30pm.

This will be a games night in the gymnasium, and just an informal social event. Uniforms are not required.

We would appreciate each youth also brings snacks or drinks to share with the group.

Parents are welcome to pick up their Beaver or Cub any time after 7:30pm, but the party will be done for the Beavers and Cubs at 8pm.

If the Scouts are staying until 9pm, D.A. will let you know.

This is our last event for 2011.

Dec. 1 - Tree Lighting Ceremony

Posted on Monday, 28 November 2011 in All Sections

christmastreeThe Village has asked us once again to help out at the New Maryland Christmas Tree Lighting and Candle Light Walk

It is Thursday, December 1st.

We have been asked to have some Scouts (and Senior Cub Scouts) hand out the candles. We need to be there at 6:30pm. In full uniform (neckers on the outside of the jacket please).

All youth from all sections should come out in uniform, but where we are handing out lit candles, only the older youth can do that, but the younger ones can help them out!

After the tree lighting there will be a candlelight walk from Victoria Hall to Faith Baptist Church where there will be hot chocolate, apple cider, caroling and treats!

Santa Claus might stop by!

Santa Claus Parade - Nov. 26

Posted on Sunday, 20 November 2011 in All Sections

santa

We are going to be participating in the Fredericton Santa Claus Parade again this year. We hope we can get a good turnout of Youth for the event, which is being held on November 26th.

I will have more details as they become available, but this is what we have so far:

Parade Route: North side – Parade will form up in the parking lots of the Nashwaaksis Middle School as directed by the Kinsmen. The parade will leave from this area, turn left on Fulton Avenue, down Fulton Avenue to Main Street, turning right up Main, then right at Brookside Drive, out Brookside Drive crossing the Ring Road to the Brookside Mall (entering on Reynolds Street) where the parade will disembark.

Please note: All float entries/participants are to enter the middle school area via Carrington Lane where they will be directed by the Kinsmen.

Arrival Time: We are float number 12. The Youth need to be at the site around 4pm, 4:30 at the latest.

Please make sure your Beaver/Cub/Scout is dressed properly for the weather, as they will be sitting on the float for a couple hours, and it does get cold.

Parade Start Time: Sharp 5:00pm

Parade Date - November 26th

Remembrance Day Ceremony

Posted on Wednesday, 02 November 2011 in All Sections
We will be attending and participating in the Village of New Maryland Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11th again this year.

As in the past, we will be meeting at the Faith Baptist Church parking lot no later than 10:15am. We will form up in our sections and parade to the cenotaph. Please make sure your Beaver/Cub/Scout has his/her full uniform on, even though they are wearing warm clothes.  The Cub Scouts and Scouts in the old uniform can wear their sashes over their jackets, and all can wear their neckerchiefs on the outside of  their jackets (if they have been invested and have their neckerchiefs).

Please remember, your Beaver/Cub/Scout will be standing outside the entire ceremony, so please make sure they have warm boots, gloves or mittens, and warm jackets on. They must stand and be quiet for what seems to be a long time to them.

Everyone will be invited to the New Maryland Centre Hall for a snack afterwards.poppy

Apple Picking - Family Event

Posted on Tuesday, 27 September 2011 in All Sections

On Sunday October 2nd, at 2pm, we are going to go Apple Picking at Everett's Family Orchard in Island View. We will meet out there at 2pm. This will be a family event, so if you want to go apple picking for yourselves, this is a good time to do it. We use the apples the youth pick to sell on Apple Day on October 15th. Please ensure your Beaver/Cub/Scout wears his/her uniform (If they have it). For the Cub Scoouts and Scouts wearing the tan uniform, sashes are not required, but neckerchiefs are for everyone who has one.

Evertt's farm is located at 3905 Route 102, Island View (west of Fredericton).

Directions from Southside Fredericton:

  1. At the Prospect/Hanwell intersection go west (away from Fredericton).
  2. Continue along this road (Route 102) for 14 kilometers until approximately civic # 3905
  3. On the left side you will see their sign.
  4. Continue up the driveway towards the white farmhouse with a red roof.
  5. Park on the grass in front of the red barn, you have arrived!
